Celtic Cross
(Oak and Bogoak)

The celtic cross is a major symbol of identification for the celtic world. The combination of the christian motif and celtic knotwork marries the the two world of pre-christian and christain celtic identity. The oak of the cross rooted in the bogoak base underlines that transition.
The knotwork of the body of the cross represents the immortal soul.  The pre-christian celts, recognised that knotwork had no beginning or end, that the knot could continue in either direction for infinitity.
The three triskel knots in the arms of the cross, represent the trinity, and point to the one, (the circle in the middle of the cross). The triad played an important part in the religion of the pre-christian celts.  Their major gods had three aspects, the druids used triad as a means to convey knowledge.
